BONNAROO IN CONCERT:
From its humble origins as a jam band showcase to its current status as one of the most respected festivals in the world, Bonnaroo has remained a uniquely Southern experience. The name Bonnaroo is New Orleans slang for “a really good time”, and the Tennessee festival certainly lives up to it with a world-class music lineup, comedy tent, and artisanal food and product venders selling regional specialties. And how about those night owl-friendly set times? Bonnaroo's late-night Southern hospitality means musical acts to can play until till 4am -- considerably later than many other festivals on the circuit. Past years at Great Stage Park have hosted some of the biggest names in music – Kanye West, Paul McCartney, and Radiohead to name a few – and 2015 promises to be no different with an all-star billing featuring Bill Joel, Kendrick Lamar, Mumford & Sons, and more.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
The first Bonnaroo was held in Manchester, TN in 2002, taking its inspiration from global music festivals like Coachella and Glastonbury. Despite having no traditional advertising the inaugural festival sold out in less than two weeks, and in 2003 Rolling Stone named Bonnaroo one of its “50 Moments that Changed Rock & Roll” -- a testament to its overnight influence on the festival circuit. Bonnaroo added comedy to the bill in 2005, and two years later the organizers purchased land to create Great Stage Park, the festival’s current home. Since its inception Bonnaroo has billed itself as a sustainable festival, and it has been recognized multiple times by eco-friendly organization A Greener Festival. Rolling Stone named it the “Best Festival” of the season in 2008, and its sterling reputation continues to attract top talent from around the world. Past headliners have included The Beach Boys, Bob Dylan, and Arcade Fire, and 2015 will be just as epic with main stage performances by Deadmau5, Florence + The Machine, Robert Plant & The Sensational Space Shifters, and more.
