Delain on Tour
This Dutch collective finds a tremendous sound in their symphonic metal. For more than 15 years, Delain has soared at the forefront of hard rock, creating versatile, powerful music that has captured listeners worldwide.
Formed in 2002 by Martijn Westerholt after he left Within Temptation due to illness, Delain would rise like a phoenix. First, Westerholt teamed up with Charlotte Wessels, a singer trained in classical and jazz music. They quickly signed to Roadrunner Records and started working in the studio, where Westerholt put together a dream team of studio musicians that included Marco Hietala of Nightwish and Ad Sluijter of Epica. Sharon den Adel of Within Temptation added guest vocals.
In 2006, Delain released Lucidity, which peaked at No. 43 on the Dutch charts. Although Westerholt originally had envisioned Delain as more of a recording collective than a touring band, the album's success caused him to reconsider, and he formed a live band and toured behind the record.
In 2009, Delain released their second album, April Rain, which reached No. 1 on the Dutch Alternative Top 30 chart and also charted in Germany, Switzerland, France, and Japan. The band went on tour again and hit the European festival circuit extensively, playing Hellfest, Lowlands, Wacken Open Air, Sonisphere, and more.
The band released their third album, We Are the Others, in 2013. Warner Music's purchase of Roadrunner Records caused some tumult with the album's release date. When it finally came out, it landed on all the same charts Delain had previously hit, but also charted at No. 3 on the U.K. Rock chart and No. 23 on U.S. Heatseekers Albums. On their next tour, Delain headlined the Dames of Darkness festival in the U.K.
Delain's 2019 European tour runs from April to June before a hop across the pond to tour the U.S. from mid-September until the end of October.
