Marquette Golden Eagles at Fiserv Forum
The Marquette University Golden Eagles have been in the game for more than 100 years, which has included 33 NCAA conference appearances. Coached since 2014 by Steve Wojciechowski, the Golden Eagles have competed in the Final Four three times, winning one NCAA tournament, and as part of the Big East they've landed one conference title and four regular-season championships. In the 2018-19 season, they finished second in the Big East and made the NCAA First Round.
Marquette plays their home games in the Fiserv Forum in Downtown Milwaukee, which opened in 2018 and also hosts Milwaukee Bucks NBA basketball. The arena, nicknamed the Four-One-Forum by locals after the city's area code, replaced Bradley Center, where the Golden Eagles and the Bucks both played from 1988 until the spring of 2018. The Forum currently seats 17,000 for basketball games and also hosts concerts, professional wrestling and other entertainment events.
Marquette Golden Eagles Men's Basketball History
The Marquette Golden Eagles, formerly known as the Marquette Hilltoppers, the Marquette Warriors and, briefly, the Marquette Gold, have been playing basketball since 1916. The current formulation of the Big East, as an NCAA Division I non-football conference, included Marquette as a charter member when it was established in 2013.
More than 40 Marquette Golden Eagles — four currently in the NBA — have gone on to become professional basketball players. These include NBA All-Star Doc Rivers, the current LA Clippers Head Coach who led the Celtics to an NBA Championship in 2008 and won NBA Coach of the Year in 2000, as well as three-time NBA Champion Dwyane Wade, NBA Champion Jim Chones, and Olympic Gold Medalist and four-time NBA All Star Jimmy Butler. Several Golden Eagles have gone on to play for the Milwaukee Bucks, including Wesley Matthews and Steve Novak. When the Golden Eagles retired number 31, it was for the jersey both Rivers and NCAA Champion Bo Ellis had worn.
The Golden Eagles have a century-long in-state rivalry against the University of Wisconsin-Madison Badgers, and games against several of their "Catholic Seven" cohort are hotly anticipated every year.
