THE UNDERACHIEVERS IN CONCERT:
In just a few short years, Brooklyn-based rap duo The Underachievers has racked up an impressive resume that includes two critically acclaimed mixtapes, a spot on the roster of Flying Lotus's Brainfeeder Records, and a stellar debut LP that landed at No. 11 on the rap charts. Their hazy, trippy productions and wonderfully weird rhymes have made them an underground hip hop sensation, bringing fans out in droves to their swagged-out live shows. Whether they're trading verses on cutting-edge tracks like "Metropolis" or throwing it back with early favorites like "Gold Soul Theory", members AK and Issa Gold always burn up the stage on tour, treating ticket buyers to bounce-worthy performances that leave them wanting more.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Issa Gold and AK -- the lyrical geniuses behind The Underachievers -- grew up a few blocks from each other in the Flatbush area of Brooklyn. AK began rapping at age 11 as The Underachiever, and when Issa Gold began writing lyrics seriously in 2011 the pair joined forces. The duo's early tracks "So Devilish" and "Gold Soul Theory" caught the attention of revered LA producer Flying Lotus, who flew them out to California for a meeting and signed them after seeing them perform. They made their official debut in 2013 with the mixtape Indigoism, an auspicious release that received praise from mainstream media including the BBC. They followed up a few months later with the mixtape Lords of Flatbush, another critical success that raised anticipation for their full-length debut album to a fever pitch. That album, 2014's Cellar Door: Terminus Ut Exordium, lived up to expectations, blazing up the rap and hip hop charts and drawing them out for extensive touring. In late 2014 they released the Clockwork Indigo EP, a collaboration with fellow rappers Flatbush Zombies that has fans eager to catch the duo at their upcoming shows.
