Aida Rodriguez is a name you're going to remember.
The Afro-Latina stand-up comedian, actress and writer has been performing to packed houses all over the country and even abroad. She rose through the ranks of comedy over the past 15 years and has made a name for herself as a force to be reckoned with in the industry. She writes her own story and refuses to be defined by anyone else's expectations.
Rodriguez is the type of comedian who doesn't pull any punches. She's been making audiences howl with laughter for years, from her breakout appearance on NBC's "Last Comic Standing" in 2014 to two standalone specials -- including a spot on Netflix's anthology comedy series "Tiffany Haddish Presents: They Ready" with Wanda Sykes and her special "Fighting Words" on HBO Max, released in 2021. Rodriguez previously made history as the first Latina to appear in two specials aired over the course of one month on both HBO and Showtime. She's also appeared on Comedy Central's "The Nightly Show," she's a regular panelist on "The Young Turks," and she's a five-time host of the PBS Imagen Awards.
There's no subject too controversial or taboo for this fearless and funny comedian. Rodriguez mixes stories about life on the road and family shenanigans with politics and pop culture observations in a performance style that is at times witty, tough-talking and relatable. She has a particularly deft touch with dating and family life material, never afraid to reach deep into personal traumas and weave a sharp-witted exposition as the expert satirist she is.
As a mother and a woman in comedy, Rodriguez also has a unique perspective on body image and other issues that affect women in society today. She fearlessly takes on these topics and others like them with a stunning honesty and sincerity rare among comedians.
Born in Boston and raised between the Dominican Republic, New York and Miami, Rodriguez uses her unique experiences as a single mother and a woman of color to share her story through comedy. In 2020, it was announced that Rodriguez would once again team up with Tiffany Haddish on a project for HBO Max and Haddish's She Ready production company. The show follows an Afro-Latina comedian, played by Rodriguez, and her struggle to break into the comedy world while raising two teenagers.
Rodriguez is a staple on the stand-up circuit, performing all over the country at venues like The Laugh Factory (with locations in Chicago, Los Angeles and Las Vegas), Gotham Comedy Club (New York), and The Comedy Store (Los Angeles). When she brings her biting, fierce routine to the stage, you don't want to be the one to miss out.
