A gorgeous, dreamy wash of R&B and jazz, Alex Isley's performance is sure to send chills down your spine.
A New Jersey native, eventual Los Angeles resident and daughter of the Isley Brothers' Ernie Isley, it would seem to many that Alex Isley was destined for musical greatness. Her musically inclined family (her maternal grandmother was an opera singer who started training Isley as a young girl), her gift of chromesthesia, or "color hearing," which allows her to see a color according to music she hears, and her perfect pitch would all lend themselves to that notion.
But no matter how pre-determined it may be, Isley's talent is indisputable. Her sound is a mix of R&B, soul and jazz with a soulful, ethereal voice that gives life to her lyrical themes of love, heartbreak and self-discovery.
Debuting in 2012 with her EP Love/Art Memoirs -- an album she started working on while pursuing her jazz degree at UCLA -- Isley has created music from her own life experiences and the world around her. She strives to create songs that are meaningful and relatable, hoping to connect people through her warmth and passion.
Isley writes, produces, arranges, and records almost all of her solo work, consistently releasing solo projects including 2013's Dreams in Analog, 2015's L U X U R Y, 2018's The Beauty of Everything, Pt. 1, 2019's The Beauty of Everything, Pt. 2, 2019's Wilton, and 2022's Marigold with producer Jack Dine.
Isley continues to grow and evolve, and like any great artist, is dedicated to it. Her song "Good & Plenty," from the Wilton album, has catapulted her into mainstream consciousness and solidified her dreamy, breathy and powerful R&B style. And with Marigold, her and Dine create a whimsical, romantic journey with Isley's vocals at the forefront.
