BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Houston-born Chingo Bling, a.k.a. Pedro Herrera III, grew up in the city before attending a private New Jersey high school on scholarship. After returning to Texas to attend Trinity University he came up with the Chingo Bling persona while DJing on the school's radio station. In 2001 he began selling mixtapes out of the trunk of his car, building a growing regional following with his humorous lyrics, outrageous personal style, and animated live shows. His 2004 debut album The Tamale Kingpin further fueled his popularity, but it was his 2007 album They Can't Deport Us All that really earned him breakthrough success. That album peaked at No. 2 on the US Heatseekers Albums chart, generating significant buzz with its socially conscious subject matter and popular tracks like "Do the Lasso". A veteran performer known for his sharp lyrics and sense of humor, Chingo Bling continues to delight and amuse ticket buyers with his unique brand of Chicano rap on tour.
