Choirboys have been performing their High Voltage to Hell shows where they play AC/DC’s classic albums ‘High Voltage’ and ‘Highway to Hell’ in full and back to back since 2014. They launched this show with two sold out shows at The Bridge Hotel, Sydney just down the road from Malcolm Young’s Balmain mansion.
Choirboys front man, Mark Gable said “I’ve always loved AC/DC and Bon. We recorded our first album in the same studio that AC/DC made their first five albums, so I have a connection that goes way back. I love being in Choirboys, but I’ve always wanted to be in AC/DC, this is my chance to do both.”
The band released and toured ‘So Easy’, a definitive acoustic tribute to the easybeats, back in 2007. ‘So Easy’ was an unashamed homage to some of the greatest songs ever written and recorded by an Australian rock group. And one that perhaps acknowledges a mentoring role, for in 1983 it was Harry Vanda and George Young who signed Choirboys to Alberts Productions and assumed the role of Executive Producers for their debut, self-titled album, which spawned their first hit, ‘Never Gonna Die’.
Choirboys are an essential part of our Australian culture having penned one of this country’s unofficial anthems ‘Run to Paradise’. They epitomise the essence of the Australian pub culture scene and have secured their place in Australian music history. Through hits such as ‘Run To Paradise’, ‘Boys Will Be Boys’, ‘Struggle Town’ and ‘Never Gonna Die’, Choirboys and their music have found their way into our hearts, ears and minds.
The band is now combining the two concerts for a special salute to the music of the Young Brothers with the new show 'Forever Young'. It will be a 2 and a half hour show covering material from their ‘So Easy’ album, the High Voltage to Hell shows, their self-titled debut album and previously unreleased material recorded with George Young in the producers seat. Included will be a sit down talk and revelation of their 6 years signed to the Alberts label where the guys will discuss and reveal their experiences writing and recording through the latter period of the Alberts recording phenomenon.
If you are a fan of classic Aussie rock this is a show not to missed.
