BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Lavoie grew up in Manitoba, Canada, where he developed an early interest in both English and French-language music. He took up numerous instruments in his childhood, teaching himself to play saxophone, drums, trumpet, and guitar. His first big break came in 1967, when he won a Canadian radio show's singer-songwriting contest. The award gave Lavoie the confidence he needed to quit his schooling in the medical field and pursue a career in music. He began playing in Quebec's small music clubs, and released his first album A Court Terme in 1975. It wasn't until his third album, 1979's Nirvana Bleu, that he really started to gain momentum, especially in Europe and Russia. The turning point of his career came in 1984 with the release of Tension Attention, an album that enlisted Duran Duran producer Colin Thurston and boasted smash single "Ils s'aiment". The prolific Lavoie went on to record a whopping 24 studio albums and three live albums. He scored another major success in 2011 with J'écoute La Radio, which featured brand new arrangements of his biggest hits. Following the album's release, Lavoie embarked on a world tour that lasted almost two years. Always up for delivering a great performance, Lavoie is a must-see whenever on tour.
