Alternative hip hop pioneers De La Soul are back with a vengeance in 2014, celebrating the anniversary of their seminal 1989 debut album 3 Feet High and Rising with the 25 Years of De La Soul Tour. Kelvin Mercer, David Jude Jolicoeur, and Vincent Mason formed De La Soul in 1987 while attending high school on Long Island. Their playful, inventive 1989 debut album 3 Feet High and Rising was a massive success, peaking at No. 1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and launching them to international fame overnight. The group's 1991 sophomore album De La Soul is Dead was another critical and commercial success, criticizing the increasingly violent nature of rap culture while still remaining upbeat with hits like "Ring Ring Ring (Ha Ha Hey)" and "A Roller Skating Jam Named 'Saturdays'". A string of acclaimed albums followed throughout the '90s and '00s, bringing the band out on the road for numerous electrifying tours with acts like Modest Mouse and A Tribe Called Quest. Back in 2014 with You're Welcome -- their first studio album in ten years -- De La Soul has fans chomping at the bit to catch the new material live on their 25th anniversary tour.
