Los Angeles-based, Cambodian-influenced Dengue Fever stirs up a transcontinental cocktail that blends traditional rock instrumentation with the sounds of Southeast Asia. The band's focal point is Cambodian-born vocalist Chhom Nimol, who sings beautifully hypnotic melodies in her native Khmer language. The sparkling, echoing guitars of Zac Holtzman create a trance-inducing vibe, while his brother Ethan plays keys straight out of classic garage rock favorites like “Wolly Bully”. Whether fans are looking for a transcendent psychedelic experience or a head-banging romp, these eclectic rockers have them covered. Dengue Fever is bringing a taste of Cambodia to ticket buyers across the country as they tour to promote the profound grooves and dreamy melodies of their 2015 album The Deepest Lake.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Following a trip to Cambodia in 2001, brothers Zac (guitar) and Ethan Holtzman (keys) became obsessed with the country’s take on garage rock and pop. As luck would have it, singer Chhom Nimol -- already a renowned karaoke singer in Cambodia -- was performing in the Little Phnom Penh neighborhood of Long Beach, just south of Los Angeles. The brothers asked Nimol to join their band before rounding out the lineup with David Ralicke (sax), Senon Williams (bass), and Paul Smith (drums). The group made their debut in 2003 with a self-titled album sung entirely in Khmer and featuring several covers of Cambodian rock classics. In 2005 the group was the subject of the documentary film Sleepwalking Through the Mekong, which followed them as they toured major cities in Cambodia and recorded their second album Escape from the Dragon House. As the band’s popularity continued to grow, their 2008 album Venus on Earth was named one of the year's best world music albums by the iTunes Store.
