Don Toliver Background
His hometown is Houston, and Caleb Zackery "Don" Toliver has been helping push the H-Town sound to the fore with every new drop. Having teamed up with some of hip-hop's biggest superstar rappers like Eminem, Wiz Khalifa, and Migos, Don Toliver is already carving out his own niche in the rap game since his emergence in 2017. His mark consists of spitting raw, melodic quips that dive into the excesses of classic debauchery and chronicling daily life in the streets of his native city.
In 2018, he broke out with his debut mixtape Donny Womack, receiving accolades from fellow Houston rap superstar Travis Scott. This led to Don Toliver's first big break, which came when he scored a feature on Scott's banger "Can't Say" off his No. 1 hit record, Astroworld. The song turned out to be a highlight of Scott's star-studded LP an impressive feat, since the album featured a bevy of high-profile acts like Frank Ocean, Drake, and The Weeknd.
This in turn led the young rapper to sign with Travis Scott's imprint label Cactus Jack, joining the Jackboys collective, comprised of Sheck Wes, Huncho Jack (Scott and Quavo), and The Scotts (Scott and Kid Cudi). Meanwhile, Don Toliver's name was reaching wider audiences via TikTok, and a remix of his song "No Idea" was posted by DJ Purpberry. With his 2020 debut album, Heaven or Hell, Don Toliver solidifies his status as a frontrunner of emerging American hip-hop. It received glowing reviews in Genius, Pitchfork and Complex.
