Indianapolis Colts Team History
The Indianapolis Colts have a long history that began in the years after WWII with a franchise known as the Miami Seahawks. That team was reorganized as the Baltimore Colts and then eventually rebranded again as the Indianapolis Colts of today. The team didn't secure its first winning record until 1957, but the legendary Hall-of-Famer Johnny Unitas took the NFL Championship Game only one year later. This led to back-to-back championships for the team that earned their status as one of the "greatest pro football teams of all time" by 1968.
Even in the face of difficult seasons, the Colts have remained a dominant team overall. Since moving to Indianapolis in 1984, the team has landed in the Super Bowl twice and walked out as champions once. They also fought their way into the playoffs 18 times. Peyton Manning certainly played a role in this success, and he currently holds the franchise passing record and is a Colts Ring of Honor inductee.
After losing Manning, the Colts had a 2-14 record in 2011, but this didn't last long. Once Luck was brought in, the following season saw the team jump to 11-5. They achieved the same record in 2013, even with a victory over former-Colt Manning, and again had an 11-5 season in 2014. There's no denying that the Colts are an NFL powerhouse, and fans who have weathered the storm will likely soon be rewarded.
