Mehdi Bousaidan on Tour
One of Quebec's most exciting young comedians, Mehdi Bousaidan may also be the most fearless newcomer on the scene. Whereas many comics give a wide berth to divisive topics like the Middle East conflicts, the #MeToo movement, or gun violence in the U.S., Bousaidan feels compelled to tackle today's most urgent issues in ways that provoke laughter rather than rancor. Coupled with his irascible charm, his unique perspective is a big reason his one-man show has sold out all over Quebec even before officially making its debut.
Born in Algeria, Bousaidan immigrated with his family to Canada when he was 5 years old. Eager to develop the widest possible view of the world (and the people in it), he pursued studies in journalism and theology before auditioning for the National School of Humour, graduating in 2013.
After starting his own weekly comedy night at Abreuvoir in Montreal, he quickly garnered industry attention, leading to his first solo set at ZooFest and a spot as a contestant alongside other emerging comedians on ‘En route vers mon premier gala.' He also found a home at Bell Media's youth TV channel Vrak, becoming part of the casts of comedies ‘Med' and ‘Code G.' Bousaidan gets even busier in 2019 as a cast member for the sketch show ‘Like-moi!' and the millennial dramedy ‘M'entends-tu?,' both on Télé-Québec. He's also a regular guest on ‘Le Clan MacLeod,' Peter MacLeod's radio show on CKOI.
Meanwhile, he's become a regular visitor to venues throughout Quebec. After his successful co-headlining tour with Julien Lacroix, he began developing a show of his own. An exhilarating showcase of both his take on "forbidden" topics and his quick-fire flair for improvisation, ‘Demain' (Tomorrow) has already become a breakout show even before its official premiere on April 2, when it begins a month-long run at Montreal's Place des Arts before moving on to Quebec, Gatineau, and beyond.
