METZ IN CONCERT:
It's incredibly fitting that post-punk trio METZ uses all caps for its moniker. Concertgoers can't help but scream the band’s name during epic live performances that feature earth-shattering volume and plenty of infectious energy. Their fuzzed out, thrash-worthy sound has drawn comparisons to Nirvana and Fugazi, but METZ stands apart by playing with the force of a band that should be three times their actual size. In concert they tear through crowd favorites like "Dirty Shirt" and "Wet Blanket" with lightning-fast precision, stunning crowds with thunderous drums, screeching guitars, and raw vocals. It all adds up to a high-intensity concert experience that will shake ticket buyers to their core.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Canadian collective METZ traces its roots back to Ottawa, where guitarist Alex Edkins and drummer Hayden Menzies met as teenagers. They began playing music together and eventually moved to Toronto, where they linked up with bassist Chris Slorach. The trio played their first live show in 2007 and spent the next few years writing, practicing, and fine-tuning their sound. In 2011 they scored a record deal with finger-on-the-pulse label Sub Pop Records, which gained notoriety for signing Nirvana and Soundgarden in the '80s. For their self-titled debut album they teamed up with Crystal Castles engineer Alex Bonenfant and Holy F*ck's Graham Welsh, who isolated the trio in a barn for a week with a portable recording rig. The result is a critically acclaimed set of tracks that captures the speed and hysteria of the band's live shows but also incorporates artful textures and dynamics. With a relentless touring schedule of up to 200 shows per year, METZ continually proves themselves to be a dynamic, must-see live act.
