BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Mike Rutherford, guitarist for legendary British rock band Genesis, formed Mike & The Mechanics as a side project in 1985. Together with lead singer Paul Carrack, Rutherford penned a string of late-'80s chart smashes that established the band as one of the UK's preeminent soft rock groups. They hit the ground running with their self-titled 1985 debut album, climbing the charts with catchy singles like "Silent Running" and "Taken In". Superstardom followed just a few years later when their 1989 sophomore album The Living Years peaked at No. 2 on the UK Albums Chart, topping charts in the US and Europe with its title track. Despite several lineup changes the band remained a consistent chart presence throughout the '90s and '00s thanks to popular albums like 1995's Beggar on a Beach of Gold and 2004's Rewired. Following Carrack's departure the band went on hiatus from 2004 until 2010, when Rutherford reemerged with a completely new lineup. The new formation's debut together, 2011's The Road, proved they had lost none of their magic, drumming up anticipation among fans for their future tours.
