MILLENCOLIN IN CONCERT:
Swedish punk outfit Millencolin has been rocking fans with their melodic anthems and adrenaline-fueled live shows for the past two decades. After releasing several albums of alt-rock influenced material, the band returned to their '90s skate punk roots in 2015 for True Brew, a galloping collection of politically charged songs that struck a chord with both fans and critics. In concert the band is a well-oiled machine, plowing through their high-octane tracks with razor-sharp guitar shredding and airtight drumming. Frontman Nicola Sarcevic brings infectious energy as he sings and plays bass, while the dual guitar onslaught of Mathias Farm and Erik Ohlsson creates a massive wave of harmonic distortion. Holding it all together is ace drummer Fredrik Larzon, whose blistering beats always whip fans into a moshing frenzy. Ticket buyers looking for a tuneful dose of good old-fashioned punk rock won't want to miss Millencolin's live-wire performances any time they tour.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
A group of skateboarders in Orebro, Sweden formed Millencolin in 1992 and released their demo tape Goofy the following year. After sending a second collection of demos to Burning Heart Records, they signed with the label and released the 1993 EP Use Your Nose. They followed up in 1994 with their debut album Tiny Tunes, and in 1995 they scored a breakthrough with their sophomore LP Life on a Plate. The record peaked at No. 4 in Sweden and earned them a loyal following in both the US and UK (British music rag NME later named it one of the "20 Pop Punk Albums Which Will Make You Nostalgic"). Mainstream success arrived in 2000 with the release of their fourth album Pennybridge Pioneers, which featured more of an alt-rock sound and went gold in Australia. Their next several albums, which included 2005's Kingwood and 2008's Machine 15, featured a potent mix of alt-rock and straight-up punk. In addition to their tireless recording and touring schedule the band has hosted the Millencolin Open, a skateboard contest at their very own skate park in Orebro, and Millencolin 20 Year, a music festival that the band co-headlined with The Hives. On their eighth album, 2015's True Brew, the band thrilled fans with a return to the amped-up skate punk sound of their '90s output.
