Nafeesisboujee is a 19-year-old indie-pop artist, songwriter, and producer carving out a lane of his own with raw storytelling, infectious melodies, and a voice that feels both familiar and brand new. Born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa, to Bengali parents with Angolan roots, Nafees grew up immersed in a digital melting pot-writing, recording, and mixing his early music on BandLab, inspired by the DIY ethos of Odd Future and the emotional urgency of early SoundCloud rap.
Much of his sonic identity was shaped during his time at an American international school in Cape Town, where he navigated life as a Bengali-Muslim teen immersed in a uniquely hybrid cultural landscape. Artists like Steve Lacy-whose Gemini Rights became a formative influence-sparked his love for pop melodies and clever, emotionally resonant songwriting. In 2023, Nafees moved to New York City to attend Fordham University-and almost
immediately, everything changed. His breakout single "Stephanie," written just before the move, became a runaway viral hit, racking up over 100 million streams, 500 million views, and 400,000+ TikTok creates. What began as a bedroom pop confession turned into a national anthem for a generation trying to make sense of love, distance, and growing up online. Follow-up tracks like "Spin U Round," "Barbie & Ken," and "Hailey" have only deepened his connection to a rapidly growing fanbase, positioning him as a voice for Gen Z listeners craving honesty and nostalgia in equal measure. His latest single, "part time thing," co-produced by Curtis Waters, signals a creative leap-pairing introspective lyricism with a more refined sonic palette.
The track is a centerpiece of his forthcoming debut EP, yours truly, Nafees, due out April 25th, 2025. A love letter to his senior year in Cape Town, the project is a vivid, youthful reflection on young love, the playful freedom of high school, and the wide-eyed pursuit of a dream to move to America and become a pop star. At its core, it's an ode to home-a grounding moment for an artist poised to take the global stage, armed with curiosity, maturity, and a sound entirely his own.
