NEW ORDER IN CONCERT:
As one of the most influential new wave bands of the '80s, New Order brought electronic dance music to the forefront of mainstream consciousness, setting the tone for generations of music to come. EDM progenitors like "Blue Monday" and "Bizarre Love Triangle" sound as fresh today as they did 30 years ago, making the band a continued presence atop festival bills around the globe. Bernard Sumner and co. sounded as sharp as ever on tour in 2013, treating fans to an emotional Joy Division tribute during their encores and setting expectations sky high for their 2014 appearances.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Formed in the wake of legendary post-punk band Joy Division, New Order pressed on after late-frontman Ian Curtis' suicide with a decidedly more optimistic sound than the group's Curtis-fronted incarnation. With former guitarist/keyboardist Bernard Sumner assuming vocal duties under the new moniker, New Order made their album debut in 1981 with Movement, breaking from the gravity of their previous work with buoyant tracks like "Dreams Never End." 1983 follow-up Power, Corruption & Lies really broke the mold, exploring a fusion of rock and early techno that brought them international fame and influenced much of the decade's ensuing music. Over nine studio albums, New Order have built one of the most beloved legacies in popular music, continuing to thrill awestruck fans both in the studio and on the road.
