NEW YEARS DAY IN CONCERT:
California pop punk outfit New Years Day has been quickening pulses with their emo-tinged sound and adrenaline-filled live performances since their formation in 2005. Frontwoman Ashley Costello cuts a commanding figure on stage, oozing charisma as she lends her dynamic voice to brooding cuts like "Angel Eyes" and "I Was Right". The band's muscular musicianship forms the backbone of their powerful live shows, giving oomph and intensity to their hard-hitting tracks with blaring guitars, blistering drums, and snaking basslines. New Years Day takes showmanship seriously, and ticket buyers lucky enough to catch them on tour can expect a pop punk tour de force that hits all the right notes.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
New Years Day formed in Anaheim, CA in 2005, taking the then-recent breakups of founding members Ashley Costello and Adam Lohrbach as the inspiration for their emotional sound. They posted their early tracks to MySpace and quickly built a fanbase, racking up plays and appearing on the MySpace Records Volume 1 compilation. After considering an offer from Pet Wentz's Decaydence label, New Years Day signed with TVT Records in 2006 and released a self-titled EP. They followed up in 2007 with their debut full-length My Dear, a self-financed and self-produced album that featured guest appearances from members of Reel Big Fish and Motion City Soundtrack. They hit the road for a stint on the 2008 Vans Warped Tour, but when their record failed to achieve commercial success several members -- including guitarist Keith Drover and bassist Adam Lohrbach -- left the band. Frontwoman Ashley Costello carried on undeterred, recruiting new members and penning new material. In 2010 the new lineup set out on The Vans Warped Tour once again, and in 2011 they released an EP titled the Mechanical Heart. The new lineup made their full-length debut in 2013 with the Victim to Villain LP -- the band's first album-length release in six years and a testament to the enduring power of their sound. New Years Day continue to shake fans to the core on tour, living up to their reputation as spectacular performers with epic show after epic show.
