Chart-topping drum and bass band, Pendulum, formed in 2002 in the Western Australian city of Perth. The band's line-up comprised Rob Swire, Paul Harding and Gareth McGrillen. Swire and McGrillen are also known for their work as Electro House outfit, Knife Party. Other members include MC Ben Mount, Peredur ap Gwynedd on guitars and Kevin Sawka on drums. The founding members of Pendulum were inspired after hearing Messiah by Konflict at a nightclub, they decided to contribute to the drum and bass genre, and asked veteran drum and bass DJ, Paul Harding to join.
Rapidly the group became known for their distinctive sound, which combines electronica and hard rock, and incorporates a range of diverse genres, many of which take influences from McGrillen and Swire's former stints in heavy metal band Xygen. Pendulum's first album, Hold Your Color came out in 2005 and become an instant classic in the drum and bass scene, with singles "Ulterior Motive" and "Spiral". The second album, In Silico, was released in 2008 and displayed more of their rock sensibilities.
Mainstream success came with their single "Propane Nightmares". The third album, Immersion, released in 2010, and included singles "Ransom" and "Crush". Collaborations include Chuckie, deadmau5 and Tiesto, and the band have also remixed other band's tracks, including "Voodoo People" by The Prodigy, as well as putting their own spin on songs by Cold Play, Led Zeppelin and Calvin Harris.
The band has played hundreds of shows worldwide, from Europe to North America and are always must-see attraction at music festivals. Currently Pendulum is busy writing new material, and whatever direction they choose to go in, fans will have something to look forward to.
