Ralph Harris on Tour
From the moment Ralph Harris steps onto the stage, the vibe in the room changes. He's like a ball of energy, and his comic style is so full of physicality that he sometimes seems electrically charged. Powering Harris' stand-up act is his own quirky combination of irrepressible enthusiasm and skill.
Over the years, Harris has developed his chops in TV and movie roles as well as stand-up comedy gigs. In performance, Harris can throw down with plenty of gut-busting gags, but what really sets his shows apart is his ability to disappear into the personality of a well-developed character. It's a specialized skill, and when Harris adopts one of his characters, such as his nonagenarian grandfather, his acting talent and his comedy come together in a way nobody can touch.
Ralph Harris Background
Philadelphia-born comic and actor Ralph Harris has a long history of making people laugh. His stand-up career began in the 1980s, but by the '90s he had extended his reach to TV, appearing on hit series like 'Seinfeld' and 'Living Single.'
Things really started to click for Harris in 1994, when he began appearing in the ABC sitcom 'On Our Own,' which would remain a feather in his cap. By 1996, his increased visibility had helped him earn his own comedy special on HBO, and the public learned just what happens when you let Harris loose onstage in front of a live audience.
By the 2000s, Harris was appearing in films as well, including the Oscar-winning 'Dreamgirls' and the Steve Carell comedy 'Evan Almighty.' More recently, Harris appeared as the host of the cooking series 'My Momma Throws Down' on the TV One network. No matter how involved he gets in other areas, though, Harris always returns to his love of stand-up comedy.
