Sean McConnell in Concert
He's written for some of the biggest artists in the world, but when Sean McConnell steps onto a stage to share his songs, it's as intimate an experience as you can get. There's no artifice or obstruction between McConnell and his audience, and his songs make a direct emotional connection.
McConnell steps up to the microphone with his acoustic guitar and his honeyed tenor and shares his music in the grand tradition of the troubadour, because that's exactly what he is — a singer/songwriter who makes his way from town to town toting a batch of finely wrought personal observations that he carefully unpacks for close listening.
He's even tailored some of his recordings to convey that feeling. His 2017 album 'Undone,' for instance, is a solo acoustic album captured completely live, giving even more listeners a taste of what happens when McConnell performs.
Sean McConnell Background
Music comes to Sean McConnell naturally — he was born into it, with parents who were both working folk singers. He was born in Massachusetts, but from the age of 11 he grew up in Georgia. That combination of Northern and Southern influences would become a crucial element of his artistry.
When he began writing his own songs at an early age, he mixed the New England-derived folk influences of his early years with the rootsier sounds of his current surroundings and emerged with a sound balanced perfectly between pop, folk, and country. The precocious McConnell released his first album when he was only 15 years old and became a relentlessly prolific singer/songwriter throughout his teens and 20s.
At the same time, he became a writer for Warner-Chappell Music, eventually putting his pan-genre aesthetic to work penning songs for everyone from country superstars like Tim McGraw and Martina McBride to rockers like Meat Loaf and Plain White T's. After years of going the DIY route, McConnell signed with Rounder/Concord to release his self-titled 2016 album, bringing his career as a singer/songwriter to another level.
