BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Swollen Members formed in Vancouver in 1992, originally consisting of vocalist Moka Only and rappers Madchild and Prevail. The group spent several years cutting their teeth competing in rap battles and releasing underground 12-inch singles before dropping their 1999 debut LP Balance. The album featured collaborations with Everlast, Dilated Peoples and was a hit with critics, earning the Juno Award for Best Rap Recording upon its 2001 re-release. Producer Rob the Viking joined the fray in 2002 for the release of Monsters in the Closet, which cracked the Canadian charts at No. 7 and went on to receive gold certification from the RIAA. A string of acclaimed albums followed throughout the '00s, resulting in extensive touring with acts like Kottonmouth Kings and Bills 'n' Eso.
