THE JON SPENCER BLUES EXPLOSION IN CONCERT:
Playing their punk-inspired blues songs in rapid succession, The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion don’t believe in chitchat between their songs -- they’d much rather keep rocking your socks off. Their loud and proud brand of rock ‘n’ roll channels classic bands like The Rolling Stones and The Yardbirds, but the mood is far from traditional. Band members jump around stage and beat up their instruments to ensure they deliver the most intense sound possible. Playing several US dates on their Freedom Tower tour, The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion will treat ticket buyers to all the groove and rock they can fit into a single set.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Noise rock pioneer Jon Spencer originally rose to prominence in New York’s ‘80s underground scene with his band Pussy Galore. Spencer was pivotal in defining the anti-corporate attitude of the albums that the band released in the late ‘80s, such as Right Now!, which wound up being hugely influential on the grunge scene of the ‘90s. After the dissolution of Pussy Galore, Spencer formed The Blues Explosion to explore more conventional territory while still ripping some speakers in the process. The ever-experimental Spencer incorporated a diverse range of other musical styles into his sound, including funk, rockabilly, and hip hop. Their most recent album Freedom Tower—No Wave Dance Party 2015 is a love letter to the history of New York and features all of the infectious energy you’d expect from the band while mixing more dance and electronic elements into their sound.
