The UAB Blazers baseball team is a varsity intercollegiate athletic team of the University of Alabama at Birmingham. The team competes in Conference USA of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I. The Blazers play their home games at Regions Field, which is located in downtown Birmingham.
The Blazers won their first Conference USA championship in 2019. They have also appeared in the NCAA Tournament twice, most recently in 2019.
The Blazers have had a number of players who have gone on to play professional baseball, including Graham Ashcraft, who was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the sixth round of the 2019 MLB Draft. He is a right-handed pitcher who throws in the mid-90s.
Dan DeMent also signed with the Tampa Bay Rays as an undrafted free agent in 2000. His career as a player lasted until 2007, and he now coaches in the majors.
Finally, Mike Goff was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 21st round of the June 1984 MLB Draft. Goff currently coaches within the collegiate ranks, but spent the better part of a decade coaching in the majors with several organizations, including the Reds, Seattle Mariners, and San Francisco Giants.
The Blazers have played their home games at Regions Field since 2014. The stadium is named after Regions Financial Corporation, which is headquartered in Birmingham. Regions Field has a capacity of 8,500 people.
