First time was a dud
My first Essence experience may well be my last. Saw the Saturday night concerts and was so far up in the rafters I was too afraid to come down to attend the shows in the Superlounges.

Mary JB is Queen
The show was amazingly produced. The sound pumped through the stadium. There were many performers in various locations of the venue. However, last minute changes were not well communicated about where certain musicians were located. There are large screens in the stadium for everyone to get a good view of what's going on on the stage.

Historic
Historic performances of Eryka Badu, Jill Scott with the Roots and Snoop DOGG !!! Although the venue (Mercedes Benz Dome) having a closed top gives it a less festival feeling, it was nothing short of amazing.

Very disappointing
I go to Essence every year and it’s usually amazing but the sound system was AWEFUL!!!!! I will definitely go back next year and hope and pray sound system is better but Essence should be ashamed over sound system ... I was one level off floor and couldn’t hear artists, sometimes microphones didn’t work at all... They should fire their sound engineer....

My husband and I really enjoyed the concerts this year. It was nice to see different artists on the main stage!

great experience
the venue is really nice. getting through security did not take long. saturday the crown was way thicker than friday. food and restroom lines were long so there was a long wait time at some points. overall it was a great time. can't wait to return.

Soundsystem
It was really sad that an event such as this had such badly or amateur sound system people. The Friday show was horrid. The poor Clark Sisters sound horrible they messed up badly. And I am only giving a 3stars since Saturday was much better on the sound system. The vendors for the most part was ok. Where are all the local hole in the wall vendors. That is what I remember from years passed. This event has gone commercial big time and the beverage vendors were not good at all there were two people serving one individual at all sets and times. Really!!! This was a major event with 1000’s of people and that is how it works. We were treated like 2nd class with those long waits for a drink!!! Having said that the entertainment was excellent in spite of the bad sound people
