Born and raised in a small town outside of Springfield, Missouri, Av Freeman has been steadily releasing music online since 2021. As honestav, Av shares personal tracks dealing with addiction, loss and healing informed by a blend of indie-folk, hip-hop, and pop influences.
The new version of “I’d Rather Overdose” stems from a call for added verses prompted by Av, which led to over 150,000 responses from fans and the eventual attention of MOD SUN, whose verse debuts today. The original version has amassed 67 million streams globally and hit Billboard’s Hot Alternative Songs, Hot Rock Songs and Hot Rock & Alternative Songs charts.
The video, filmed in Malibu and directed by Freodom, adds to a series of videos unveiled for previously shared tracks “They Don’t Make Pills for a Heartbreak” and “Freckles.”
In the midst of a meteoric rise, Av Freeman exudes a relatability and truth that has procured a quickly growing, loyal fanbase and a label deal with Open Shift/gamma. Following the death of his brother and father, Av has used music as an outlet, sharing stories of his experiences with the world. More from the breakout musician is imminent.
