JESSICA PRATT IN CONCERT:
Indie folk singer-songwriter Jessica Pratt has quickly become a critical darling thanks to her incredible voice (think Nico meets Joni Mitchell) and Simon and Garfunkel-inspired harmonies. Despite the high-profile comparisons Pratt remains fiercely unique, combining well-worn folk traditions with a modern lyrical sensibility to arrive at a singular sound that is both nostalgic and timeless. In concert she captivates audiences with her world-wise vocals and hushed acoustic strumming, delivering gorgeous folk masterpieces like “Back, Baby” and “Central Park” with a confidence that belies her relatively recent arrival. Fans of mellifluous vocals and authentic folk storytelling won’t want to miss Pratt as she continues her rise on tour.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
San Francisco-born, Los Angeles-based songstress Jessica Pratt was introduced to folk and punk legends like Tim Buckley and The Gun Club at an early age by her musician mother. She took up the guitar at age 15, and a year later she was recording her first songs using her mother’s microphone and Fender amp. After several years of sharing demos, she caught the attention of Tim Presley and released her self-titled 2012 debut album on his label Birth Records. Despite a pressing of just 500 copies, the release garnered extensive critical attention including favorable reviews from Pitchfork, Consequence of Sound, and PopMatters. She followed up in 2015 with her sophomore album On Your Own Love Again, another critical smash that has fans dying to see her perform her gorgeous and eclectic brand of folk in concert.
