BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Oakland-born, Compton-raised Suga Free, aka Dejuan Rice, got his start as a rapper working with legendary producer DJ Quik. Quik produced Suga's 1997 debut album Street Gospel, an impressive first outing that landed on the Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and established him as a potent new voice in rap music. Suga followed up the release with guest appearances on tracks by Xzibit and Snoop Dogg, and in 2004 he climbed the charts once again with his sophomore album The New Testament (The Truth). He continued to release provocative albums throughout the decade including 2008's Smell My Finger and 2009's Hi Power Pimpin', earning a reputation as a witty, pull-no-punches lyricist. Following a five-year hiatus Suga released his hotly anticipated seventh album The Resurrection in 2014, exciting fans for his tour upcoming tour dates.
