Buffalo Bills Team History
The Buffalo Bills became the seventh team to be admitted to the American Football League when Ralph C. Wilson was awarded the franchise in 1959. Less than a decade after being founded, in 1964 and 1965 the Bills won the AFC Championship and then-Head Coach Lou Saban was named AFL Coach of the Year for both seasons. After Marv Levy took over as Head Coach in 1986, the Bills became one of the best teams in the league, winning five AFC championships and making four consecutive Super Bowl appearances from 1990-1993. To date, the Bills are the only team to play in four consecutive Super Bowl games. In the AFC East, the Bills are tied with the Miami Dolphins for the second-most division titles at 13, behind only the New England Patriots. In 2022, the Bills made playoff history in a game against the Patriots when they became the first team in the Super Bowl era to score a touchdown on each of its first seven drives of a playoff game.
Since hiring Head Coach Sean McDermott in January 2017, the Bills have made five playoff appearances.
