Childish is a mark of creative rebirth for the relatively private Daniel Goldstein, better known publicly as Lane 8 -- a document of self-discovery that's resulted in his most meaningful music to date. These ten songs are the culmination of Goldstein's decade-plus long career as Lane 8, which has been balanced with a personal life full of music, art, family, and the joy that creativity so often generates.
The title - and concept - was spawned through Goldstein's observing his kids as they grew older and more artistically curious in their forms of play. "Our kids had gone from being very small to being real people," he muses." It was inspiring to watch them become creative--drawing, crafts, bead projects, silly songs -- in this very innocent and pure way. It also made me realize my own process had deviated so far from that. I was thinking too much about the results and not enough about experiencing the joy of creativity. I realized I can just make an album for the pure enjoyment of it, without worrying too much how it will be received or even if it will work at my shows."
Altogether, these songs form a deeply personal artistic statement from Goldstein. "I set out to make music that was for myself, first and foremost--music that, in that moment, was what I was really excited about. From my perspective, it brings together a lot of the things that I've touched on in individual songs but hadn't necessarily put all together on an album."
