An adventure to Austin
I went to Austin mostly to see Lukas Nelson and the Promise of the Real tape an episode of Austin City Limits at the Moody Theater on July 2nd. I figured that while I was there I might as well go to Willie's shindig on the 4th too (I've attended several times before). I got there 1/2 or so before the gates opened because I wanted to see the earlier acts, many of them are Nelson family members or their close friends. They had moved the smaller stage they use for the earlier acts so we were standing on concrete rather than the lawn we had been on in the past so it was extra hot! The bands were fantastic. At approx. 2;30 we evacuated to our cars and some nearby buildings due to severe weather approaching, they had a plan in place and the staff was friendly and professional. Once the rain and lightning subsided we returned to the venue and the rest of the night went off without a hitch. I had a great time and so did everybody else. Most of the Music was your staple of Outlaw country you would expect although some of the bands like Particle Kid, Lukas Nelson and Promise of the Real, Raelyn Nelson Band, and Edie Brikell don't really fit that genre. I'll be back again if I can! If you haven't been to this all day Music event, put it on your Bucketlist.

Impressive lineup
Willie can still play, but voice notably weaker. Love the way he goes from one song to the next without speaking in between. He understands why you bought the ticket. On the other hand, the mini campaign rally held fo Beto, the Democrat nominee for the senate, was inappropriate and detracted from the experience. We go to concerts to get away from ordinary life, and that includes getting away from politics.

Willie Nelson’s picnic
What an amazing concert! The line up was spectacular! Even with being evacuated and the rain we had an amazing time! We will be back next year!

Incredible Day
I’ll keep this short and sweet. The concert and venue were both amazing! I throughly enjoyed listening to some new music as well as the old! My playlists will never be the same! Can’t wait for next year.

Willie's the best!
This was my 3rd year for Willie's Picnic and I'll continue to go as long as he's there! I've always gotten the outlaw tickets. Next year I'm getting the best tickets available!

The bands started playing around 2:30 PM and Willie was scheduled to come on at 10:00 PM. In my opinion, the bands that played until 5:30 (when we left the concert) were horrible. I've talked to others and they agree and those that stayed until Willie came on said they didn't get any better. As I said, the bands were so bad that we picked up our stuff and left the concert at 5:30 PM.
Willie Nelson is one of the most successful country music singer-songwriters in history, releasing 68 studio albums and 10 live albums. He wrote his first song at the age of seven and joined his first band at ten, playing concerts as a lead singer and guitar player while still in high school. He spent the ‘50s and ‘60s writing songs for established acts such as Ray Price and Patsy Cline, as well as releasing a string of albums on Liberty and RCA beginning with his debut …And Then I Wrote in 1962. In 1973, he signed to Atlantic Records and put out Shotgun Willie, which veered into outlaw country, a stark contrast from the mainstream Nashville sound and clean-cut country artists of the era. 1975’s Red Headed Stranger and 1978’s Stardust followed on Columbia Records, both garnering commercial and critical success. The ‘80s saw the release of No. 1 albums Honeysuckle Rose, Somewhere Over The Rainbow, Always on My Mind, and The Promiseland, as well as Nelson joining Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, and Kris Kristofferson in the country supergroup The Highwaymen, touring and releasing three studio albums between 1985 and 1995. Nelson continues to release a new album almost every year and delight ticket buyers in live shows to this day.
